Apple picking and more by #LucindaRace

Hello again,

Hubby and I went apple picking… it’s a tradition that started with my mom. On a bright sunny day Mom would take me and my brothers. We’d load the trunk of the car with over-flowing wooden half bushel crates.

Standing in an orchard brings back so many sweet memories. I have to be honest, I didn’t take my girls very often to pick apples. Life was so hectic when they were young but we did go to the orchard, buy a bag and get an apple cider donut so that counts right?

I wanted to share with you my Grandmother's Apple Pudding recipe, another family favorite.

Apple Pudding - Oven 350 for 30 minutes
In a 4 quart bowl, lightly greased add:
4-5 thinly sliced apples,
Sprinkle with 1/2 cup sugar and a dash of salt
Pour over 1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon of apple pie spice

Batter
1 cup flour
3 tea. baking powder
2 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg lightly beaten
1/2 cup milk
1 tea. vanilla
Mix well and pour over apple mixture.
Bake until toothpick comes out clean from the cake.

Enjoy!

In other news, keep an eye open for my December newsletter. I’ll be sharing with you, my newsletter readers, the first chance to read Blends, the prequel to the Crescent Lake Winery series. This novella will not be available for sale so you’ll want to be sure to download it when it is released.

And again, the novella is completely FREE, my gift to you but only if your sign up.

  2. Apple picking is a tradition at our house too! I've never had apple pudding. This looks great. I'm sure my critique group would love it if I ever see them in person again! Maybe for Thanksgiving. Thanks.

  6. There's nowhere around here to pick your own, but I do go to the farm markets to buy local. You can't beat the flavor.

  7. We used to have a large peach orchard but also had a row of apple trees. Love them fresh from the orchard.

  8. Thank you for the recipe. I'll make it tomorrow night. Our fruit trees had all the buds blown away in a winter storm. We were so disappointed.
