The month of December has always been special for me. It means wrapping up a year in preparation for welcoming in a more promising one. And while this has been a difficult year for many, hope looms on the horizon in the form of a Star.
Call me superstitious, but there’s something portentous about two celestial events happening back-to-back this month, and one that hasn’t happened in nearly 400 years. I speak of Jupiter and Saturn aligning to form a star; some see this to be The Star of Bethlehem, appearing at almost the same time the winter solstice begins.
Let me preface this by saying, I am a believer, though not overly religious. As a child, like most of us, I read of The Star of Bethlehem guiding three wise men to the newly born Messiah. Over the years, the star was believed to be a miraculous sign, and theologians have always claimed it fulfilled a prophecy (The Star Prophecy), usually linked to unusual celestial events.
Not only unusual events, but the star usually makes an appearance during troubling years; years that led to events such as the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem, and the Jewish revolt. Read more about this in the Dead Sea and Apocalyptic War Scrolls.
This is what the alignment of Jupiter and Saturn looks like from my friend, author Alyssa Maxwell's front yard. (Her hubby generously let me use this picture).
I see this as a promising sign that 2021 will be a year of
positive change, and that a power much bigger than we are, knew we needed help. I take it as a celestial promise that we are in good hands.
Now onto our original theme of December being a month of Romance.
It’s said to be the best time of year. And a time of year when every commercial features lovers, and many get
engaged. It’s a time when families make
amends, put their difference behind them, and friends come together. It’s a time of
giving, sharing, and caring. Yes, love is definitely in the air.
For me, it’s a time of year when I release a new book. And in keeping with
this tradition, By Golly is now available on Amazon. This novella is the third in the H.E.
Caldwell’s series, although a complete stand alone. This December, some of your favorite characters
are having troubles. Will this magical month of December bring our lovers back
together and will love prevail?

My wish for you this season is good health, an abundance of
happiness and the hope that a celestial promise will be fulfilled.
Take care and be grateful for all you have!

Marcia, I'd never thought about how people do put their differences aside this time of year to come together. A friend just wrote me how unhappy her husband is that he won't be together with his family because of Covid. Normally, he's complaining about the gathering. So I guess this is when we reassess our values and who we love. Never thought of that until I read your piece!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nora. It's a trend I noticed when I hear from people I haven't heard from in years. Old boyfriends seem to surface. With some it did not end well. lol
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post. I love that new cover, too! Merry Christmas, Marcia!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Liz and thanks for the kind words about my new cover.
DeleteWhat a joyous post. We watched the planets align as well, and like you I am hopeful this means something. God bless you and I love the title of your book!
ReplyDeleteThe star was beautiful and such a great way to put a positive spin as we close out 2020. Good luck with the new book! Happy holidays to you and yours, Marcia!
ReplyDeleteThanks Maddie, Wishing you and yours the happiest of holidays,
DeleteSuch a great take on the end to a year fraught with challenges. Here's to brighter things ahead. Wishing you a most Merry Christmas from the West Coast.
ReplyDeleteFrom your lips to God's ear, Kathleen. A very Merry Christmas to you.
DeleteKara, I am hopeful 2021 will be our best year yet. Thanks for your nice words about the title. Already planning By Gosh for the next go round.
ReplyDeleteDarling Hubby was at our house in the country the night of the best viewing of the star. I was in Houston and saw nothing, but he said it was amazing. He had a great view of it there. I've read before about the portent of the planetary alignments that created the star visual. I hope you're right about it bringing a better year ahead. Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteJoan we can only hope. I choose to believe 2021 will be our best year ever. I would have liked to be in the country to witness that star. I forgot to look. Hence the borrowed picture.
