Surprises for Today by @JoanReeves #RomanceGems

Good morning! I arrived home yesterday, completely exhausted from a week of taking care of an adorable but rambunctious doggie.

Since I've had my "I want a dog" fix satisfied for a while, I'm on to things I love and things I hate.

First, Things I Hate List

This list is topped by moving. Yuck. Is there anything more exhausting than moving? If there is, I don't know what it is.

We thought we'd be in this house forever, but now I find a 2-story just doesn't work with my increasing vision problems.

My office is a huge clutter cave so I'm starting there. I managed to fill 4 boxes with books without weeping. I'll take them to Half Price Books in the morning so they can find new homes.

I'm keeping some old, yellowed paperbacks from the golden age of romance—the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Darling Hubby just rolls his eyes when I tell him I have to keep them. Some are the first books of friends, some are the books that inspired me to write.

Things I Love List

I'll limit this list to 2 things germane to this post. First is shopping for a new house. Even though it's exhausting, it's still fun—visualizing how I would decorate a new house—a 1-story. It'll take some time because a 1-story in the size we want is hard to find. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

The second thing on today's list is promoting other authors like Connie Vines who is the October Author Spotlight. Connie hangs her hat in sunny southern California.

Drop by the Author Spotlight page and read all about Connie and her books.

Perfect for Halloween is her book, Here Today, Zombie Tomorrow, a Buffy-type romance for Halloween.

October is Fall into Romance

Our October promotion and blog theme, I guess you could say, is Fall into Romance, a celebration of autumn and romance novels for readers and writers. Does it seem odd to you that there aren't more autumn-settings in romance novels?

In my own booklist, I have one book that ends on a crisp autumn day, Romeo and Judy Anne, but no book that begins in autumn.

I was thinking about this a couple of months ago when I was plotting my most recent release, The Key To Kristina. I deliberately set it with the opening scene at the end of September.

The latest review of this mystery-romance said: "Brilliant!!Fantastic book. Very hard to put down."

Reviews like that thrill me. *g* The price on this book has been raised to $3.99. I don't know when Amazon will make that effective so you may be able to get it for 99¢ today. There are a few ads that will appear for it so it will drop to 99¢ on those days.

Sign up for my newsletter and you'll be the first to know when any of my books are on sale for 99¢.

  1. 14 years ago, as a single lady, I moved fron the 2 level family home where my children grew up to a small beach side cottage. It was a huge ordeal, capped by the moving company being a 'no show'. I'm glad it's behind me, and have no intention of ever moving again. Good luck with the purging, and enjoy the fun stuff, like the redecorating.

  2. Good luck house hunting! And yes, moving is not something I want to do often.

    1. I'll hum the Gloria Gaynor song, "I Will Survive" and that should help. *LOL*

  3. We've lived here 43 years. The idea of moving creates a bigger shudder than my body can maintain. But looking for a house...that might be fun!

  4. I've owned 9 homes along the way. The best thing about moving is the purging of things. I'm in this one 23 years and dread the thought of even packing up one room. I love house hunting though. Always wanted to be an interior designer.
