Giving Thanks in November by @JoanReeves #RomanceGems

Last night, Darling Hubby and I finished working with the landscape crew as night fell.

We crawled into the house, showered, and went straight to bed.

No rushing to the computer to write my November first post. No dinner. No setting the clocks forward.

Upon arising today, about thirty minutes ago, we were making a shopping list for Home Depot when I suddenly realized today was November 1. The first day of the month, I am already behind.

Thus, the late post—and it will be a short post.

Writing? What's That?

I don't think I wrote a creative word in October. I was consumed with all the home projects.

Fortunately, the painting crew arrived this past week and finished work yesterday. The house looks magnificent inside and out. I'm having second thoughts about selling. *LOL*

When it comes to my carefully designed gardens, I'm one of those hands-on people. I want to work with the crew, not let them do it and view it afterwards.

They know how I am so it's not a problem when I pick up a heavy stone and place it exactly where I want it—except Darling Hubby fusses at me.

Since the trauma of having the back yard dug up a couple of months ago in order to replace the power cable supply line, I have anxiously awaited the landscapers.

I wanted not only the landscaping restored but also some parts redesigned and the flatstone walk way enlarged a bit.

So Darling Hubby and I worked from 9:00 yesterday morning until 7:00 in the evening. The landscapers departed long before then, but I wanted the big pots of flowers in the front courtyard rearranged, and a Japanese stone lantern moved. Plus a few other things.

Thankfully Romantic

To me, a beautiful landscape around our courtyard patio is a lovely place to share a glass of wine with my wonderful husband and with neighbors too.

Thankfully Romantic describes my mood today because my Darling Hubby cooked breakfast for me because I was so stiff and sore. Later, we're going to the plant nursery and pick out some winter flowers for the courtyard planters. I like living growing flowers even better than a bouquet that arrives from a florist.

I'll post the November Spotlight author in a day or two—as soon as my muscle aches recede. *g* In the meantime, I wish you a wonderful November where you can be thankfully romantic too.

I'm online! Follow me or just say hello!

    1. It was so I guess that's why I did even more yesterday—or I'm a masochist at heart.

  2. Outdoor sanctuaries are now more umportant than ever. No doubt you will create one equally wonderful at your new home. I recommend a bath with epsom salts.

  3. I echo the Epsom salts bath advice. It works wonders! I’d say don’t overdo, but I think the ship has sailed. do take the time to smell the flowers and relax a bit, Joan. Good luck with the home sale!

  4. Joan, your post reminds me of Martha Stewart. I've been watching her newest show on H&G. She has a large farm and she's very hands on although she has a crew of landscapers. Each year she invites her friends to the farm, I think it's in Maine, and they fill the pots about 300 for the farm. Martha loves big plants so that's what they put in them. When they finish, they party the rest of the weekend. I'm sure Martha picks out great food to serve too.

  5. Me, three on the Epsom Salts. I'll bet your landscaping is beautiful. Take care of yourself while in your processes!

  6. I admire people who can take good care of a yard. I have no idea what to do. My mother can work wonders! I'm glad you've got a great backdrop for parties and writing and everything else!

    1. My mom was an awesome gardener. She could make anything grow. It took me years to learn how to get houseplants to thrive. Gardening outside is much easier though. I like being out in the sunshine and fresh air.

    2. A long time ago, I read this in a gardening book: "Your front yard is your gift to the world. Your back yard is your gift to yourself." I adopted that as my gardening philosophy.

  7. During COVID I found gardening to be very relaxing. I don't have that much space in my backyard for flowers. It's all pool, but I plant in pots. Take good care of yourself Joan.

    1. I transplanted some Mexican petunias from the big patio pots and planted yellow pansies in front of them. Nice color combo with the purple and yellow.

  8. I love the quote about yards, Joan. Our back yard is one of the reasons we purchased this house. Best wishes for your plans.

    1. Thanks, Caroline. I'm loving my yard right now. The weather is wonderful. Larry looked at our freshly-painted house and the yard and said, "Remind me again why we're selling this house?" Uh oh. I've been thinking the same thing. *LOL*
