Steamy Romance and Music @ConstanceBretes #romancegems

I don't always have music playing or a playlist when I write, but there are specific books where a certain song and artist plays continuously in the background as I write the story.

Two of my books, Love Songs, and Book of Love, has the same theme song that I love to hear. "I love you always and forever."  In Love Songs, the heroine is a popular contemporary singer, and the hero is a drummer and leader of the band called White Sands.I have her singing this song to the audience and she glances up at the drummer when she sings it. In Book of Love, the hero waited until the last dance of the night and dance with the heroine to this song.

Midnight Escape background music was When I'm with you by Sheriff. The hero and heroine were listening to the song at the end of the story, on his ship, during a romance dinner.

For Love, A Second Time Around, I listened to Willie Nelson sing Always on my mind

For The Haunted Love Affair, I listened to "Unforgettable" Nat King Cole with his daughter, Natalie Cole.  The hero played the song on his grand piano to the heroine.

Do you like to listen to romantic music in the background while you're reading a romance book? If so, what do you like to hear?  Lately I've been listening to "Lover" by Taylor Swift and Shawn Mendes.

Be sure and check out the Romance Gems video below.

  1. I listen to classical music via Pandora when I write. When I'm doing email or Facebook, I listen to Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong or Carol King or some other popular music on Pandora. Music is important to me. Good post.

  2. I don't have music on when I write OR read. It's a distraction for me. However, like Caroline said, I'll play it when I'm doing FB or working on promo. My husband is a musician, so our lives together has a literal (and interesting) sound track.

  3. I have different songs for different parts of my books that inspire me. They are great motivators for me. Often in the car songs spark ideas of scenes for me. Thanks for brining it up and showing us too your great covers.

  4. I get too distracted if there's music playing while I'm reading. I prefer the sounds of nature. Reading outside is one of my favorite things to do!

  5. I play music when I drive and often I work out plot points then, too. But never when I write or read. I like my head filled with voices then...not melody. Great post!

  6. I can't listen to music while I read. But there are songs that remind me of certain books. Like the song "Simple Gifts" always reminds me of Little Women. Not sure why!

  9. I usually have classical music playing in the background as I write or music in a foreign language that sets a mood but I don't speak the language well enough for the lyrics to interfere with my thoughts.

  13. Great post, Constance! When I'm writing, I can only listen to instrumental music, the lyrics mess with my writing brain! Often I will listen to Native American flute music while writing.

  14. I can't listen to music when reading or writing. It's distracting. Noise is Ok but not music! I do, however, use song titles or a piece of lyrics for titles.
