Excuse Me…Someone Is Gettin’ Busy Over Here! By Kathryn Hills #RomanceGems

It can be challenging to work from home. Trying to get everything accomplished, sticking to a schedule, meeting your deadlines with everyone and every distraction imaginable around you. Now imagine you’re a romance author that writes SPICY.

I begin each morning before dawn. Up early so I can get my wordcount in. Pour my coffee, sit down with my laptop… Hang on, a dog needs to go out. That’s okay, I haven’t started writing yet. Wait, it’s snowing again. Now the dog is stuck somewhere in the yard. Boots on, coat. Can’t find my gloves. Sorry neighbors for the scary writer lady in the robe, carrying a Dachshund through the snowstorm. What a visual, right?

Phew… *deep breath*typing, and more typing* Until everyone is awake.

Have you ever read a HOT romance in a crowded place? Maybe a plane, a train, or in a coffee shop? Things are really going great until someone asks you a question. But what if you’re the author attempting to craft that wonderfully romantic, super-sexy love scene with others around you?

…He smiled. That crocked smile she knew and loved. Leaning down, he swept his tongue across her…

“Has anyone seen my phone?”

“Excuse me…someone is gettin’ busy over here!”
Hahaha.

So, tell me…what’s it like working from your home? I’d love to hear your stories. You know…because we all adore those Zoom crashing kids or the guy with the cat filter stuck on. 😊

Thanks for joining me today!

  1. Lol. A fun post! It's just the two of us at home now, and outside cats who care about little except food. I worked a day job for so many years (and liked it) that working at home is almost pure pleasure for me. Am I as productive as I'd hoped I'd be? No. Not even close. But it's all a good time, especially when I get to read about friends in bathrobes carrying their dachsies into the wild to find appropriate facilities. :-)

    1. It's a glamorous life, Liz. hahaha I've worked from home for many years, but last year was the first the entire family was home together. It's all great fun (I do LOVE being with them!) but on some snowy mornings... *wink*

  2. Writing from home is the one thing I enjoy about my solitude. Yet, I also miss the company of others. There are days I'd gladly take an interruption. Today is not one of those days (other than blog posts and messages from friends). You can never tell about tomorrow.

    1. I'm a homebody, that's for sure, and it can get lonely for writers. But deadlines with a full house (esp. the 3 crazy hounds!) can make things tough. Looking forward to spring when we can all take a break in the sunshine. :D

  3. Typically I don't have a problem writing as hub works nights and sleeps days. But the few hours he is up he usually has the radio on with news and sports. Not a fan. Other than that I don't have a lot of interruptions while writing.

    1. I'm pretty good with background noise, but sometimes...Esp. during this past crazy year of news. Yikes! Makes me wonder how I'd be if I didn't have interruptions. Knowing me, I'd miss the chaos. Weird writer, right here, folks! LOL

  4. I laughed reading your post. Thanks for the chuckle. Yes, getting interrupted while reading a hot scene with mundane life if a downer but kind of funny too. When I write there are always distractions but I keep on rolling. My life would be boring without them.

    1. Right?! As I type this, one of our big dogs is wrecking yet another bed. His kill-count so far is 17! Fodder for books, Nora... hahaha Thanks for reading!

  5. Great post! Imagine trying to write and edit those scenes with two teenaged sons walking through the room (and interrupting) all the time. Not easy!

    1. Oh, jeez...I can't imagine that, Judy! I had a woman once sneak up behind me in a coffee shop to read over my shoulder. She yelled to her friend, "See, I told you, she's a writer." I spilled my coffee everywhere because she startled me so. Happy ending? She felt bad and ended up buying a book via her phone on the spot. Reads me still. LOL

  6. I remember those days! I ended up turning my desk so no one could look over my shoulder when they walked into my office. And now, I’ve had a grandson make faces on a ZOOM meeting...it never ends!

    1. I LOVE IT, Bonnie! I'm actually thrilled the workplace has changed for many. I've done it all over the years, from big corporate cubicle jungles to now working on my own where I wish. I'm 100% blessed to be home with the ones I love, doing what I enjoy most. Family, pets...it's all good. And funny! Thanks for reading. :D
