How to Prepare for Valentine's Day Articles by Laura Hunsaker

With Valentine's Day coming up, I've decided to gird my loins and prepare for all of the obnoxious articles that poke fun at Romance. How, you ask? Well I'm aiming for comfort. I plan on grabbing my softest throw blanket and coziest socks and burying my nose in a book.

I refuse to read one word about Fabio or Fifty Shades of Grey. Not because I hate them, but because I swear every single article written about Romance novels always includes Fabio (who hasn't been relevant in decades!) or Fifty Shades (Try a new book!) Or better yet try not bagging on Romance! Ugh, I'm worked up again. Okay back to being cozy. As we all know from my post on Hygge I am all about being cozy.

My cozy no-negativity starter pack:

(Links are to amazon in case you want to create your own)

Soft cozy blanket

Cute Bullet Journal

Some Cool Gel Pens

Funny Coffee Mug

Fuzzy Socks

Enjoy your Valentine's Day and grab a book to read:) Books always make everything better. Here's my latest- DREAMS OF THE PAST a short story with a guaranteed happy ending and not a derogatory word about romance anywhere.

Happy Reading!

She needs rest, he needs relaxation…

Jenny Travers wants a fresh start. Leaving the nightmares of her past behind her, she heads to Last Chance Beach. Renting the Sea Glass Cottage sounds peaceful and relaxing, which is exactly what she needs.

What she doesn’t need is a man.

Lieutenant Commander Scott Gordon was injured by an IED on his last mission, and while his leg has healed, it’ll never be strong enough to stay on his SEAL team. Renting the Sea Glass Cottage sounds like the perfect place to figure out how he’s going to handle his new normal.

He never expected to find a woman in his bed.

A mix-up at the rental agency means Jenny and Scott are both renting the small cottage. Sharing a space with a stranger should be hard, yet they both feel more at peace than they have in months.

Will their summer romance last, or is the magic of Sea Glass Cottage all they’ll have…

    1. Thanks! I've already seen Fabio mentioned once so I will be cozy as all get out and nose in a book!

  4. It drives me crazy also when people (who probably have never read a real romance novel) make fun of them,

  5. Fun fact - a flight attendant friend of mine dated Fabio. Romeo, Cupid, he was not.

  6. Great list...I, too get tired of the jabs at romance by people who have no idea what they’re talking about. I have concluded they’re sour hearted loveless losers who can’t appreciate that love is what drives humanity.

    1. I think they think they're funny and witty and have never read beyond the tip of their noses. They seriously pat themselves on the back for being clever. It's ridiculous.

  7. It's dishearteningly lazy when a new generation of know-nothing-about-romance journalists drag out every worn out clique like bodice ripper.

    1. Ugh. But they read a romance novel in the 80s and they're so well read (sarcasm font inserted)

  8. I always look at the cheesy insults to our beloved genre as lazy journalism. Why write something new when they can mine the same old crap. Actually, Fabio was a very nice man according to some authors I know. He was merely an iconic representation of the late 1970s. 50 Shades of Gray? My problem with that is that it should not be labeled romance. It's general fiction erotica. I shudder to think of all the teen girls who read that and think that's how a relationship should be.

  9. Great post, Laura! I even wonder if any of the writers of these articles have ever read a romance novel. I doubt it!
