Reading and Writing by Karen Whiddon

Writers write.  I know that, you do too.  Myself, I write five days a week and take the weekends off, just like I did when I worked at the day job.  I even have a set writing time every day, and I stick to it, unless something happens to throw me off my routine.

Writers also read.  And these days, I've been reading a varied selection of different genres.  Spurred on by the Neflix series Bridgerton, I read Julia Quinn's second Bridgerton book - devoured it actually.  Since I'm not a big historical romance reader, this surprised me, but the story was delightful.  And I'm reading Loreth Ann White's In The Deep now, plus I've finished some Fantasy, a couple of Young Adult fantasy books, and some contemporary romance.  I'm also waiting for Kristin Hannah's new book about the Great Depression, which Amazon has promised to deliver tomorrow.  I love her stuff and I can't wait to dive in.

There's something about curling up on my chair when it's chilly outside and losing myself in a book.

My next book comes out in April and it takes place in a city I've always wanted to visit.  Unfortunately, I've only visited O'Hare Airport, but someday I hope to see Chicago.

If you'd like to preorder it, you can do so here.    Buy on Amazon

What about you?  What are you reading?  Any recommendations?  Do share, please.

  1. I'm reading to "study" an imprint I haven't written for but am readying a proposal for. Enjoying it, too. Plus I just finished J. C. Kenney's latest Allie Cobb cozy. It was a fun read.

  2. I read all the Bridgerton books years ago. It's funny because I NEVER read historical until I saw Julia Quinn at a conference and got a free book. I took it with me when I had a long trip because I knew I'd be waiting in airports for lengthy time periods. I LOVED it! After that I read everything she wrote.

I just finished a book called Her Highlander Choice by Fenley Grant. It's a time travel from the very distant future to the very distant past. Quite interesting and very well written. Definitely had me turning the pages even though that's not my typical read. This is the author's first book and it's a promising one if you like futuristic fantasy and time travel.

  3. I'm reading The Paris Wife by Paula McLain. It's about Hemmingway's early days in Paris as he is trying to establish his career. Fascinating. Anyone else been to his house in Key West?

    1. Yes, I went to his house in Key West with my daughter while my husband and son hung out at the pool. What I really remember is the cats. What were they? Six-toed?

  4. I'm reading TEN THINGS I HATE ABOUT THE DUKE, by Loretta Chase. My favorite of her books is LORD PERFECT because of the descriptions she uses and the wit.

  5. I read all the Bridgerton books when they first came out. I love a good Regency. I've been reading a lot too, mostly mysteries. Grabbed a bunch of free ebooks and have been going through. Too many I read the first few pages and then remove them from my Kindle. Once I would hang on to the end of every book I started, but life is too short to waste time on a book I'm not really enjoying.

  6. I'm reading Jodi Picoult's the book of two ways. The heroine is a death doula who has near death experience in a plane crash and instead of returning home goes back to Egypt to find the man she once loved but didn't choose. Just a little more than half way through. I hope you get to Chicago. My brother lives there and we went touring one summer there. Lots to see and do.
