This Is Not The Vacation You're Looking For by Laura Hunsaker

In my day job, I work in an elementary school, and we are about two weeks out from the last day of school. You know what that means...Summer Break! We haven't gone anywhere except the store in so long, that I swear "vacation" isn't in my vocabulary anymore.

At our Mother's Day breakfast, my mom was talking about going to Ireland. My folks used to go every year before...well you know. I was supposed to go to Scotland last year, but...well you know. And my sister was planning an Iceland trip, but...you get the picture. So we were talking about vacations this summer. Well my 7 year old has been learning about Mt. Everest and told me, "Mama did you know that some people take vacations on Mt. Everest?"

I told her that it didn't sound like a vacation to me, it sounded like a lot of hard work to climb that mountain. She followed up with, "Well what is a vacation, then?"

I instantly replied that I considered a vacation relaxing and fun. And my little one, bless her heart, was silent a moment, and then said, "Oooh. You mean like Target."

I...okay fair.

Now that I'm vaccinated, I would love a real vacation, not just going on a trip to Target. Somewhere beachy and relaxing, and definitely not Mt. Everest. What is your ideal post-pandemic vacation? Are you an active vacationer like climbing a mountain or hiking the Grand Canyon? Or are you more like me, where you'd prefer a hammock and a drink in a coconut?

If you're dreaming of a beach vacation, you should grab Dreams of the Past now! It's a book that will leave you smiling.

She needs rest, he needs relaxation…

Jenny Travers wants a fresh start. Leaving the nightmares of her past behind her, she heads to Last Chance Beach. Renting the Sea Glass Cottage sounds peaceful and relaxing, which is exactly what she needs.

What she doesn’t need is a man.

Lieutenant Commander Scott Gordon was injured by an IED on his last mission, and while his leg has healed, it’ll never be strong enough to stay on his SEAL team. Renting the Sea Glass Cottage sounds like the perfect place to figure out how he’s going to handle his new normal.

He never expected to find a woman in his bed.

A mix-up at the rental agency means Jenny and Scott are both renting the small cottage. Sharing a space with a stranger should be hard, yet they both feel more at peace than they have in months. Will their summer romance last, or is the magic of Sea Glass Cottage all they’ll have…

  1. I've dreamed of going to Ireland for so long. That is where I most want to go when all this is over. If I can afford it!

  2. I want to return to Italy to tour around on the fabulous trains and see more of the Amalfi coast and northern Italy. Then I want to return to Portugal for the dreariest part of the winter here: Jan & feb. And I’d enjoy another cruise too! We’ll be busy!

  3. I just dream of water and sunshine. Sitting in a comfy chair. Maybe with a book I love. Yes, definitely there. Warm sand on my toes. Good luck to your couple at Last Chance Beach.

  4. I always say there is travel, and there is a vacation. I vote for vacation. Heat, sand, water and wine. And not one single thing I have to do but relax and enjoy.

  5. I want to go back to Ireland and spend a few weeks on the Aran Islands. In lieu of that, though, our entire family (15 or so of us, anyway) has rented a house on a NC beach in June. Noisy, yes; relaxed, maybe; fun--oh, yes!

  6. My family have all booked a house in Bar Harbor this August. We used to go all the time but then everyone grew up and got jobs and families etc. This will be the first time all three of my kids and my husband and I will be together for a vacation in many years. I can't wait.

  7. What a fun post, Laura! Target does sound fun...well you know...hahaha But I'm with you. Give me a beautiful beach with warm water and tropical drinks... *sigh* Here's to more of that to come!

  8. Loved this story and the post. I admit that even Target sounds fun right now. Hero just had our groceries delivered by Walmart. I used to consider grocery shopping a chore and can't believe I'd be happy to visit the local Walmart again. Having them delivered is cheaper--no impulse buying. LOL Can you imagine the first time I shop after not being in a store in so long? $$$$ Although we have--a couple of decades in the past--hiked over a lot of Anasazi ruins, our ideal vacation now is a trip to Ireland. We'd love to rent a one-story cottage for a month and use it as a base to tour places we haven't been when on tours. With our deteriorated health, not going to happen, but that would be our dream. Another we'd planned was to go on the Alaskan cruise on a smaller ship that features a lecture each evening about what you'll see the next day. Guess we'll stick with documentaries. :(

  9. Gee, that sounded depressing. I didn't mean to. Glad we saw all we did when we were more fit. Loved your post!

    1. ha! It's not depressing! I get it! So many of us had to stay home and a store run really was exciting to get out of the house!

  10. I want to go everywhere! I still have 10 states I haven't visited. We do a mix - sometimes going to a relaxing trip to the beach (just went to FL in March) and sometimes a place where we can see things. Isn't it great that we can go places again? I'm headed to CA this week to see daughter and granddaughter.
