Congratulations to all the winners!

Going into November we will be celebrating the Season of Giving Thanks. The Romance Gems want to impart some of our Life Lessons as part of the celebration. You can enjoy some of our wisdom via our Life Lessons video.

Our November contest began this morning at 12:01 a.m. This month we're giving away five (5) Amazon Gift Cards as our way of thanking the readers who visit our blog. Complete details can be found on our Monthly Giveaway tab.

For those who've already reviewed the great prizes and just want to cut to the chase, here's a direct link to the CONTEST ENTRY PAGE.

In the spirit of the Season of Giving Thanks, I thought I'd share a bit about my 1920's holiday romance novella, Erin's Gift.

Prohibition Era, Chicago

Caught in a raid at an illegal speakeasy, good girl Erin O'Mara loses everything: her job, her home, and her reputation. Handsome and so out of her league attorney Seth Harrison, her best friend's brother, rescues her not once, but twice. He bails her out of jail and offers her a job as nanny for his son.

Seth has no intention of falling in love after the death of his wife. But despite his better judgment, he can't help being drawn to Erin's innocence. This Christmas, letting go of the past and embracing the future may be the greatest present of all.

I'll be back again tomorrow with my regular monthly post. In the meantime, stay happy, stay healthy, stay well read.

April Contest News! by Nancy Fraser #RomanceGems

Spring has finally sprung! April has arrived, the sun is shining (somewhat) and the first shoots of flowers are peeking through the thaw. Soon my favorite lilac trees will be in full bloom and I'll barter for bouquets from perfect strangers. Last year I had fresh lilacs twice a week for three straight weeks and all it cost me were six pans of traditional shortbread. A cost I was more than happy to pay!

Hopefully everyone's escaped April Fool's Day (so far) without falling victim to a prank. Or, if you were caught, I hope you got a laugh out of it. My April Fools Day is also book release day for my new short story (more about that in my regular post on the 5th).

For now, we're going to discuss our upcoming contest.

April Contest News

These don't count !!!
We'll be running only one contest in April and, in the spirit of the season, it will be an Easter Egg/Scavenger Hunt. The contest begins today and will run through midnight Saturday, April 27th.

The object of the game is to find Easter Eggs hidden among our authors' social media sites. Each author will hide an egg somewhere on their social media. Then, when it's their day to post to the blog, they'll provide you with links to two or three of their sites. Their specially chosen egg will be on one of those sites. Feel free to "like" or "follow" the author when you visit.

All you have to do is explore their listed sites, find the egg, and send us your answer. In order to enter, you will need to use the "Contact the Romance Gems" link found on the lower left sidebar of this blog page. On the contact form, you will need to include the following: The author's name or date of the post, where you found the egg (e.g., their website, Facebook, Twitter) and the color of the Easter Egg. Also, please include your full name in the body of the email.

Please do not include your answer as a comment on the day's post.

The Easter Bunny may also visit our Facebook Author/Reader Page from time to time throughout the month. Be sure to stop by for a visit. If you don't yet belong to our group, you are welcome to join while you're there.

Note: The eggs won't stay on the guest sites forever. Most authors plan to leave the egg on their social media site for 2-3 days so please remember to check back daily. You don't want to miss the chance to find as many eggs as possible.

The emailed entries will be tabulated and the person who has found the most correctly identified Easter Eggs will be the winner. In case of a tie the names will be put into a random draw to select the overall winner.

All contest information can be found on the Giveaway Tab at the top of the blog page!

The Grand Prize: A $20 Amazon Gift Card
Additional Prizes: Books from the Romance Gems authors (more to come on this a bit later)

How about we get started?

I've hidden an egg on one of my social media sites. Here are the three links you will need to start your search: Website ~ Facebook ~ BookBub. However, only one site will have the egg!

And, of course, I would appreciate likes and follows when you visit!

February Contest Results by Nancy Fraser #RomanceGems

I'm so pleased with the results this group accomplished for our first full month. As someone from the original group, I can say I'm blown away by the depth brought to us by our newest members. This past month's posts were insightful, touching, educational, and humorous.

A huge part of our success is due to our wonderful visitors who came, commented, came back again. They followed the blog, liked our Facebook Reader Page, and tweeted about our blog and our giveaway.

Here's hoping the friends we made along the way will continue to follow us, comment on our posts, and enjoy the conversation and information we share. As Joan said yesterday, we've got even more planned for March. Check out the "Monthly Giveaway" tab above for all the information!

Enough of my gushing.

3rd Place:  Debra Guyette

5th Place:  Kathy Cozzarelli

Note: I have e-mailed all of the winners. However, I've not heard back from everyone as yet. If you see your name on the list of lucky winners but haven't received an email, please check your spam folder. If there's nothing there please leave a message on today's post and include your email.

Thank you again to everyone for their support!

Remember, our March Rafflecopter goes live on the 4th!

From Cari's Kitchen by Lucinda Race #RomanceGems

As with many authors my early books had a lot of who I am sprinkled within the pages.

In the Loudon Series I have a café, What’s Perkin’ where Cari McKenna starts her life over after losing her husband and best friend. It’s within those fictional walls where Cari perfects her recipes for blueberry muffins, which happen to be a favorite of Ray Davis along with many other treats.

As Cari is passionate about friends and helping those in need one young woman in need of a job comes to town. Of course, Cari immediately comes up with a plan to start by giving her a job on a trial basis for two weeks. During the two weeks Dani wins over not only Cari but her customers with delicious and decadent cupcakes.

Since I can’t invite each of you into my kitchen for a cup of coffee and a cupcake I wanted to share with you one of Dani’s special creations.

S’Mores Cupcakes

Chocolate Cupcakes with Graham Cracker Crumb
1 Sleeve Graham Crackers
1 Stick Butter

Place graham crackers in a 1 gallon plastic bag and crush with your hands, or use a rolling pin to crush the graham crackers into crumbs. Once a nice crumb has been reached, transfer crumbs to a bowl.

Melt butter in a sauce pan, keeping a close eye to make sure it doesn’t burn. Once butter is melted, allow to cool for two minutes. Then, pour butter over crumbs and mix until all crumbs are moistened.

Line your cupcake tins with your liners of choice, and then scoop approximately 1.5 tablespoons of the crumb mixture into the base of each muffin cup patting down slightly to form a layer in the bottom of the cup.

Prepare your cake batter, either homemade or store-bought mix, and pour over the crumb layer, filling each cup about 2/3 full.

Bake as the directions indicate, to when a toothpick comes out almost clean, with perhaps a few crumbs attached. Allow to cool for 5-8 minutes in the pan, and then transfer cupcakes to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Chocolate Layer
4 ounces Semisweet Chocolate Chips
4 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon honey

In a saucepan, melt together the chocolate, butter, and honey over medium heat and stir until completely combined, then allow to cool to room temperature. Chocolate should be at a point where it is easily spreadable, but not runny.

Marshmallow Meringue
4 egg whites
1 cup granulated sugar

In a double boiler (pot of boiling water with a metal mixing bowl set on top, but not touching the water’s surface), whisk together the egg whites and sugar until the sugar is completely dissolved and the egg whites are just warm to the touch, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from the heat, transfer to a medium mixing bowl or to a stand mixer with whisk attachment, and beat the egg whites until they form stiff, shiny peaks, which should take about 5-8 minutes.

The Final Step
Using a spatula or knife, apply a thin layer of chocolate to the top of each cupcake, then, add a dollop of meringue to the top. This can be done by either using two spoons, or a piping bag, or even a gallon size bag with the corner cut off to create a piping bag. To finish, use a kitchen torch to toast the tops to give it that fresh from the campfire s’more look.

Then…Enjoy!

If you’re interested in other sweet treat ideas check out The Loudon Series where e-books are sold and don’t forget to visit www.lucindarace.com for details on upcoming releases and my newsletter.

As a reminder enter the Romance Gems’ “Comment and Win” weekly drawing for a $5 Amazon gift card. The drawings are on Friday! Just comment on any of our posts throughout the month and you’re automatically entered.

And, of course, enter the Rafflecopter drawing for a chance at winning a Kindle Fire or one of six bundles of books by the wonderful authors of this blog!

Until next time,
I wish you happiness.
