 I am very excited to announce that more books are coming from me set in the lovely beach town created last year in Last Chance Beach. You may recall that I wrote Hangover Husband in a lovely box set of short romances. 

Today I'm revealing my next full length novel titled FAKE ME. You guessed it, this is a fake relationship story. 

What happens when a matchmaker matches a matchmaker with her grieving brother? He gets well and truly tired of being set up.

Never mind that Grady O'Hara's turned himself into the biggest grouch in Last Chance Beach and hidden away in the Landseer Motel...his sister is determined to pull him out of his bolt hole and bring him back into the light. 

Except Grady has a secret he won't share with anyone, especially not his sister. And this pretty, sweet-faced, pitbull wannabe that shows up at his door won't make him.

For months he’s licked his wounds after his fiancée’s drowning. What the world doesn’t know is she’d been on her way to her lover when her canoe tipped the night before the wedding. Grady is in no hurry to return to his life in New York. He’s unkempt, unhappy, and likes it that way.

Farren Parks needs the Landseer Motel and the man ensconced there. Her plans for Singles Fest, a dating app aimed at single parents and their children hinge on providing the amenities, location, and price range of the closed motel.

Farren needs Grady to open his motel, and his grouchy, bruised heart. What she finds when she forces her way into the international real estate broker’s life is enough to make weaker women run for the hills. But Farren’s future depends on getting Grady onboard with her plans.

Grady knows the real reason Farren has been sicced on him. His sister is back to her matchmaking schemes and he’s had enough, considering how the last set-up ended.  The only way to get his sister to leave him to his solitude is to pretend the match with the delectable Farren Parks has paid off. 

Grady promises to help Farren with her fledgling business and open the motel if she’ll play along with his fake dating plan. Only to get his sister to back off, of course.

We deserve it! by @BonnieEdwards #RomanceGems

This month of May 2021 is one of the biggest for change in recent history. (I mean pandemic history) Earlier, we celebrated all forms of mothering whether that means in the traditional sense or step-mothering or grandmothering. 

And now it seems we're celebrating a return to more "normal" things, like travel, family gatherings, (The Brits have reinstated hugs!) and vacations. Whatever we choose to do for ourselves and our mental health, we deserve it. Especially as women. 

Women carry so much of the burden of daily life. We are the keepers of the important "dates" like birthdays, anniversaries, our parents' doctors' appointments, our kids' big days for school life and on and on and on. Even if we aren't mothering in some capacity, we're the doers.

Today I received word from a hotel chain that they would soon be open for business again. Sigh...this is a good thing for my mental well-being. Not that I'm in a position to actually book time away yet. But just knowing that I'm one step closer cheers me. 

As a writer, though, I'm committed to completing projects that I agreed to work on during the darkest days of recent times. I'm so happy I had lots of hours to work and write and do my favourite things. It helped! If you found a new hobby or returned to an old one, please let us know here.

This month's theme is Sizzling Days and Sultry Nights and that's mostly true about August...the heat hangs like a blanket some days and there are nights that never really cool down. A few days we trekked a local park to find some places to help cool us off. The narrow falls are called Lupin Falls and the emerald pool of water is at the base of Myra Falls. These are only two of the four waterfalls we saw in or near Strathcona Park on Vancouver Island. For more images and a couple of videos you can find me on FB.

Steamy Summer Days with @MaddieJames #LastChanceBeach

I've been a water girl since I was a kid. I remember learning how to navigate a boat dock in my very early years--you know, how to balance getting into the boat without slipping between dock and boat and into the water. My sister and I would fish for bluegill, laying on our bellies on the dock to pull them up, look at their pretty scales, and then release them. We also learned to fish off the banks and "creek fish" if that is such a term. This was all stuff we did with my dad.

When I turned fifteen, dad asked if I intended to keep fishing with him now that I was older. I hadn't thought that I wouldn't--but I think he saw the signs of boys taking up more of my time, and wondered if fishing would go by the wayside. He said, "Well, I'm going to have to buy a license for you when you turn 16." Turns out he didn't have to buy that license and our fishing days pretty much ended.

Sometimes I regret that--but when you're fifteen, life is different.

My mom was the beach bunny. She'd pack us up, haul us to a nearby beach where she'd meet her friends, and we kids would all play in the lake and sand all day, under the watchful eyes of the moms. Sand in our swimsuit bottoms. Water up our noses. Sunburns on our shoulders.

We loved it.

When I was in the eighth grade, the Army Corp of Engineers built a dam about five miles from where we lived, which created a huge lake and recreational area. The beach went in the next year and back then, we all boasted that it was the largest inland beach in the state of Ohio. It still could be, I don't know. That was over 40 years ago.

But throughout high school in the summer, we were there. Every day. So was my mom, most days, but no longer were we under her watchful eye--my sister and I were somewhere else trying to catch the eyes of the lifeguards. Those were steamy, fun-filled, lazy, and unforgettable summer days. I treasure the memories. Mostly I wish that I could still fit in my bikini--sort of. 

College came and went. So did marriages and divorces. And babies, and later on grandbabies. Beaches, however, were a constant. As I shared in this post on Gems, I passed the love of water--and the beach--on to my progeny. While my kids and I spent our share of time at the lake--my parents had bought a lake house by then--I also introduced them to the ocean. After 20+ years of ocean beach vacations, when any of us say we are "heading to the beach" we know exactly the one we are talking about.

So, all that said, how could I say no to the opportunity to contribute to a box set called Last Chance Beach: Summer's End? Well, I couldn't. Cover Reveal for Rayder's Appeal by @BonnieEdwards #RomanceGems

Summertime where I live teases us in April. We're in shorts, sandals and getting just a little sun-kissed. But in June, the last of the Arctic winter air is shoved south and the month is known as Junuary. Today, for example, is grey with mist that turns to drizzle that turns to rain. Repeat cycle...for days. Perfect for reading by the fire or writing up a storm.

I've been busy with final revisions and edits for the fourth book in my Brantons series, Rayder's Appeal.

In July, all of the novellas in The Brantons will be available at all major retailers. But for now, Body Work, Slow Hand, and Whole Lot o' Love (and the collection pictured here) are still available in Kindle Unlimited. If you're a member, I'd say it's time to read this set while it's available.

Now onto Rayder's Appeal. This full length novel is a departure from the others in this series. One, it's longer and two, it's more of a mystery/suspense with no lives at stake: just hearts. (See how I slipped the romance in there?)

First and foremost this is a romance, a steamy, sexy, gotta-have-you romance. When I first conceived this idea I was told by other authors and an editor or two, that this heroine wouldn't work. Well...I'm the most stubborn of the astrological signs (no...not Taurus). I'm the one who patiently waits to clear roadblocks, who finds a way around obstacles to get what I want. And I wanted to write a romance about a woman who'd been conned. I wanted the hero to be that con man.

Challenging? Yes...but then I'm the author who brought a heroine with children from different fathers to fruition and readers LOVE her. So, I believe readers will appreciate the conflicts between Rayder and Eleanor. (He calls her Ellie.)

Rayder's Appeal will be available to purchase at the end of July.


What can a reformed con man do when the woman who changed his life needs his help?

Eleanor Macklin has overcome her past and repaired the damage done by her first, and only, love. She has all she’s ever wanted, her family’s art gallery.
