 I am very excited to announce that more books are coming from me set in the lovely beach town created last year in Last Chance Beach. You may recall that I wrote Hangover Husband in a lovely box set of short romances.

Farren needs Grady to open his motel, and his grouchy, bruised heart. What she finds when she forces her way into the international real estate broker’s life is enough to make weaker women run for the hills. But Farren’s future depends on getting Grady onboard with her plans.

Grady knows the real reason Farren has been sicced on him. His sister is back to her matchmaking schemes and he’s had enough, considering how the last set-up ended.  The only way to get his sister to leave him to his solitude is to pretend the match with the delectable Farren Parks has paid off.

Hibernation Worked Once...Should I Try It Again? by Nancy Fraser

Last January 5th, I wrote my first post of the year and outlined my plan to hibernate for the winter. Because I can't take the flu shot, I'd decided it was the best thing to guarantee my own health.

And, since I was bent on keeping myself well, I also planned to take it a step further and spend the first three months experimenting (against the dietician's wishes) with a keto diet.

Little did I know, before I could even come out of hibernation, I was forced into isolation and social distancing. So much for my plan to emerge in the late Spring to enjoy the beautiful weather!

I did manage to accomplish a lot during my "alone" time, including:

• 
  Completing two of my last three publisher contracts. The last one will finsh next month when my short story, Teach Me, is published as the final part of my Lusty Liaisons erotic romance series from The Wild Rose Press. More on that in next month's post.

• Taking back the publishing rights on ten of my older, out-of-contract books.

• Creating an attainable writing schedule (not that difficult when you're stuck inside).

• Learning to self-publish by working along side two other generous Gems authors (Joan Reeves and Maddie James) to put together the Gems' Last Chance Beach box set.

• Publishing my first three indie books, as well as acting as publisher for our holiday anthology, Christmas Comes to Dickens. Oh, the things I've learned!

And that experiment with a keto diet? I lost 97 pounds. I was hoping to hit 100 pounds gone when I weighed in on January 1st, but I have to admit I self-sabotaged that last few pounds while enjoying a family holiday!

Bottom line: hibernation works! Will I do it all again this year? You bet your sweet bookmarks I will!

I've already got another killer schedule planned, including:

• Publishing a book a month! Some will be revamps of those previously published works, but more than half will be new. The newbies include another trip to Last Chance Beach, a new generational anthology with three other mega-talented authors, another holiday trip to Dickens, and book(s) #2 of both my Cougars & Cubs and Love of the Land series.

• Mastering the art of promotion. I learned a lot with both the Last Chance Beach and Dickens projects, but there's always more to absorb. Especially when it comes to Amazon and BookBub.

• Honing my formatting skills for print books. I managed to upload my first attempt today and am just waiting for Amazon approval so I can order my proof copies. I have to say, it looked pretty sweet in the "previewer".

• And, back to keto and my Wii Fit to lose another 60-or-so pounds! Not to brag ... but I've become somewhat of an expert on keto cooking!

I will be back later in the month with tour and giveaway news about my first historical romance in ages. In the meantime, here's a sneak peek at Her Timeless Gamble, Book 1 of my Love's a Gamble series (releasing on January 19th but up for pre-order now).

My Gift of Romance to you by @BonnieEdwards #RomanceGems

This month's theme is the Gift of Romance and we're so lucky to have such a gift. Readers and writers love Chapter One, Page One, because it means we've opened a whole world of possibilities and we know that whatever else happens...things will work out in the end. By things, I mean relationships, jobs, and life decisions, because there can't be a happily ever after if the things surrounding the hero and heroine aren't sorted out along with the love they share. 

As I write this, I can say that I typed the words Chapter One yesterday. That's right, my new gift of romance will be titled: Claiming Shandy Return to Welcome Book 4. I'm really excited to start this book because Shandy Camden was introduced to readers in the very first pages of the first book in this series.  

It's fitting that she finally gets her own HEA. She started off setting her sights on the hero of book one, and losing out to the heroine, Mercy. By book 2 Shandy popped up again and renewed her acquaintance with the heroine Elle and they formed a strong friendship. In Book 3 Shandy's innate kindness and bravery endeared her (finally) to Mercy...her erstwhile rival.

A foursome of strong, bright, confident women supported each other through a lot! 

Still, the woman who'd wanted to meet a decent, good man throughout the series was still alone. Who is her hero, you ask? 

Ah! But that's the gift, isn't it? The not knowing, the anticipation of new love and fresh perspective, of things coming right and happy endings.

I expect to have Claiming Shandy Return to Welcome Book 4 available in the summer 2021 but it's set at Christmas time. 

Which got me thinking about how many Christmas books I've written and here they are in one picture. 

Love at Christmas is a collection of the 3 books on the bottom: Invitation to Christmas, Not-so-Blue Christmas and One Crazy Christmas. I included it because I love the cover and it's less costly to buy the collection than it is to buy the books individually. 

The Tinsel Tango is one of ten lovely holiday romances in the fabulous boxset Christmas Comes to Dickens.

And Christmas to the Max is my newest book that crosses two series with a hero from one series moving to Welcome WA where my Return to Welcome series is set.

Holiday Countdown and Romance is in the Air by Connie Vines

 Is anyone doing the 'holiday countdown'?  

I'm in the habit of allowing every celebration/holiday it's due. Halloween, Thanksgiving, and then Christmas. No holiday blends into the next. I do not shop on Thanksgiving Day, or the mid-night Black Friday Sale. The Christmas tree never appears until the second week of December.

This year, I've tossed the rules out the windows.  

A local FM radio station and a music channel on cable  began playing Christmas music the 1st week in November. I'm listening. I have Christmas candy displayed in my candy dishes and in my Bell jars in the cupboards.  I even purchased a package of Hershey's kisses that are called: Sugar Cookie. White chocolate with colorful sprinkles. They do taste exactly like a sugar cookies, too. 

I scroll though the cable stations on a daily basis, searching for the Yule Log. You know, the fireplace with roaring fire image that fills your television screen, while the chamber music soothes your nerves via your sound-bar. Or the version with the puppies jumping around wearing Santa suites, with the bouncy music that quickly gets on your nerves. 

The fragrance of spices, cookies, hot cocoa fill the home with comfortable and familiar memories.

2020 has been challenging for everyone.  

Perhaps this is why I'm rushing into Christmas this year.

I love 'warm and cuddly' romance novels during the holidays?

Stories where little girls, and little boys, have a special request for Santa. And there is always, always a happy-ending.

The holidays are a magical time, a time filled with memories and hope for a better future.

Gratitude for Release Day! Christmas to the Max by @BonnieEdwards #RomanceGems

For the first time ever, I backed up into a story. Normally, I’m a writer that knows what book is up next. I even tell people what my next book will be before I start. Not that I plan out for years in advance...but I know which one is next. You know...like a normal person.

But not this time! Weirdly, in this month of thankfulness, I'm kind of, sort of, grateful for the lockdown. There were days I had nothing to do but write. I began and finished other stories because I committed to them. I ignored Max's call because it wasn't the book I was supposed to be writing.

I had planned to write Claiming Shandy Return to Welcome Book 4. It was the logical next step in the series because I’d written books for three of her friends (one started as a frenemy, but they worked it out). I even put information on the book at the end of Craving Jake (Book 3).

But then I thought I could jump on a bandwagon with other writers and come up with a linked story to suit a different sort of project. I planned a quick novella to fit in before I started Shandy’s story. Then the characters and setting came to life and suddenly I had more to say than a novella could hold. And I had the perfect characters and setting to say it. Christmas to the Max was born.

I am so glad the story pulled at me. I'd wanted to write about a female house renovator for years. I'd fallen for Max when he stood on the front steps of his home and talked to his ex-wife in One Crazy Christmas.

 We always hear about how life is not like a romance novel. That romances are pure fantasy and not at all “real.” Well…here’s the real deal…

There was once a teen in high school who enjoyed the company of a very pretty girl. Every day during lunch period they’d walk the grounds of the school and she was so nice that she would point out lots of other girls that he could ask out. She knew there were plenty who wanted to see more of her friend. Nothing came of their good friendship because the nice, pretty girl was spoken for and had a long-term boyfriend who went to another school.

They went their separate ways, she to a college far away, and he to university, where they both excelled. They launched their careers and the pretty girl lived in a different city with her long-term boyfriend. The man returned to their hometown and succeeded in business.

Sometimes, the old friends would chat the night away at parties hosted by old friends in town, while the long-term boyfriend was the life of the party.

Eventually, after the pretty girl realized her boyfriend was still a boy and not a man, they broke up. After years of being attached, the pretty girl saw that she’d been looking at the wrong man to share her future. The real man she wanted had been there all along, kind, considerate, and patient.

At a wedding of old friends, the man waited for the pretty girl to arrive. He paced and worried about if she was bringing a date. (Buddies reported he was in a heck of a state.) Of course, she didn’t. She went, hoping that he’d be there alone and maybe, just maybe, something would spark to life between them…

And here we have three standard romance tropes: Friends to Lovers, Second Chance at Love, Small Town Reunion (at a wedding no less) with a happily ever after ending. And it’s all true! My daughter and her husband now have two little boys, two thriving businesses, and life is grand.

In my romance Finding Mercy (Return to Welcome Book 1) failed actress Mercy Talbot returns to her small town, Welcome, WA where memories are long and grudges are fresh as daisies. Gossip is the stock in trade and returning only feeds the rumor mill and brings up old animosity. But Mercy finds a purpose in her motherless niece and decides to help the child be herself. To do that, she must do battle with her own mother who's doing the best she can for her granddaughter.

What doesn't work is her startling attraction to her brother-in-law, a widowed single father who struggles to be the best daddy he can be...but Clay Foster needs help and he knows it.

Falling for Mercy would be a bigger mistake than marrying her sister had been...and when her career takes Mercy away again, she'll take his little girl's heart with her and leave him broken.

The Long Hot Summer #LucindaRace

Hello again, 

Have you enjoyed your summer so far? We’ve been busy gardening and installed a split rail fence around the garden with chicken wire to protect the garden for next year from the darn bunnies. Now don’t get me wrong they’re cute but they decimated my spinach, green beans and some lettuce too. Daughter #2 brought me buckets of her special compost for my tomato plants and I have no idea what was in it but WOW things are definitely looking up in the garden. This was the first year we started composting although I’ve been gardening for years. I guess the great pause was good for something, my garden. I’ve been sharing pictures of flowers, tomatoes and the pups on social media so if you’re curious feel free to follow me to see what goes on in my little plot of the world. 

Oh, and did I tell you the bears have been coming around on a pretty regular basis. Not sure why they’re finding their way into town but here they come. So extra care is taken when we go out with the little dogs.

 

In book news – In just a couple of weeks I’m sending the first book in The Crystal Lake Series, Blush, to my editor for her to help me smooth out any rough edges. It has been a book that I thought was finished and then based on feedback from my critique partner, beta readers and trusted family members I had to rework a few sections. My goal is to always release the very best book I can. I hope you find it will be worth the wait. Projected release is January 2021.
